Exploring the Depths of Falun Dafa: A Beacon of Compassion and Truth in Australia, with John Deller

Spread the love

In a detailed conversation, John Deller provides an in-depth look into the world of Falun Dafa (Falun Gong), a spiritual practice that has touched the lives of many across the globe, including Australia. With its roots deeply embedded in the ancient Buddhist tradition, Falun Dafa combines gentle exercises and meditation with a philosophy grounded in truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. Deller’s journey with Falun Dafa began in 1999, and since then, he has been an active participant in its propagation, facing
challenges and experiencing profound personal growth.

A Personal Journey Toward Spiritual Awakening

Deller’s introduction to Falun Dafa was marked by a significant event. “I began to practice Falun Dafa after attending a lecture by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Sydney in May 1999. Before that, I had a long interest in Chinese culture,” he shares. This interest led him from practicing a Taoist form of Kung Fu and Tai Chi to embracing Falun Dafa’s comprehensive spiritual discipline. Unlike other practices, Falun Dafa does not involve membership lists or fees, appealing to Deller’s appreciation for its openness and accessibility. “It is free, no cost to learn the exercises and meditation, and it’s open to people of all cultures and ages,” Deller emphasizes, highlighting the universal appeal of Falun Dafa.

The Essence of Falun Gong

For Deller, Falun Gong transcends being merely a practice; it is a pathway to understanding humanity’s place in the universe. “Falun Gong is an ancient spiritual practice in the Buddhist tradition. It combines meditation and gentle exercises with a moral philosophy centered on the tenets of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance,” Deller elucidates. He passionately argues for the relevance of Falun Dafa’s teachings in today’s world, where materialism often overshadows deeper spiritual quests. “Is there more to life than accumulating things or money – and then we die and disappear? Or does a part of us continue after death, and where we go depends on how we lived, and what we valued?” Deller questions, inviting reflection on life’s more profound meanings.

Promoting Falun Gong Amidst Challenges

In Australia, Falun Gong’s journey has been both enriching and tumultuous, especially in light of the persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Deller has been at the forefront of promoting Falun Gong, from participating in large group practices in Darling Harbour to engaging in community events. “Falun Gong has been practiced in Australia since 1995…After the persecution of Falun Gong began in China in July 1999, there was more public awareness about it through media reports,” he recounts. Deller’s dedication to raising awareness extends to educating government officials and the public about the CCP’s misinformation campaign against Falun Gong.

Engaging with the Community and Overcoming Misconceptions

One of the more challenging aspects of Deller’s advocacy involves direct engagement with the public and Chinese tourists. Holding a display board at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Deller encountered varied reactions, reflecting the deep-seated propaganda instilled by the CCP. “I don’t really prepare. Just remain in a calm awareness that generally accompanies Falun Dafa practice,” Deller states, describing his approach to these interactions. He recalls a particularly touching moment with a Chinese family, highlighting the shared cultural and spiritual loss due to the CCP’s actions. “The son then said in English, ‘We are sorry for your loss.’ I was sorry too because it is also the loss of their culture,” he reflects, underscoring the universal significance of Falun Gong’s suppression.

Shen Yun: Reviving Traditional Chinese Culture

Shen Yun Performing Arts holds a special place in Deller’s heart, serving as a vibrant bridge between traditional Chinese culture and global audiences. “Shen Yun’s stated mission is to revive the traditional, divinely inspired culture of China and share it with the world,” he notes. Through classical Chinese dance and performance, Shen Yun transcends entertainment, offering a glimpse into a culture steeped in spiritual depth and virtue. “To truly display China’s divinely inspired culture requires performers who live and breathe that culture,” Deller points out, highlighting the intrinsic connection between Shen Yun’s artists and their practice of Falun Dafa.

A Message of Hope and Openness

As Falun Dafa continues to enrich Australian society, Deller remains a steadfast advocate for its principles and the transformative power of Shen Yun. He encourages those curious or undecided about Falun Gong or Shen Yun to approach with an open heart. “Have an open heart and mind. If someone tells you, ‘It is fantastic, you must see it’ – why not ask them why and consider it?” Deller suggests, advocating for openness to experiencing the profound messages and uplifting artistry that Falun Gong and Shen Yun offer.

John Deller’s narrative is a testament to the resilience and compassion at the heart of Falun Dafa’s practice. Through the efforts of countless others like him, Falun Dafa continues to inspire individuals in Australia and around the world to explore deeper spiritual truths and to live a life aligned with the universal values of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.
