A strategic plan to minimise bushfire risks in Canterbury-Bankstown and Georges River council areas is now on public exhibition.
The draft Bushfire Risk Management Plan, developed by the Canterbury-Bankstown/Georges River Management Committee, identifies bushfire risks in the area and outlines strategies to reduce them over the next five years.
The draft Plan details how land managers and fire authorities will implement various treatment strategies including hazard reduction burning, mechanical clearing, community engagement programs and ignition prevention activities.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek encouraged all residents to familiarise themselves with this Plan and ensure they are prepared for potential bushfire risks.
“This Plan is an important strategic document to protect our lives, homes, businesses and the environment,” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“The treatment strategies within this Plan may directly impact you and your property and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have their say.”
The Management Committee consists of staff from both councils, local fire agencies, land managers and other stakeholders working to identify ways of reducing the impact of fires on the area.
Residents are invited to view the draft Bushfire Risk Management Plan and provide their feedback by 5pm Thursday 29 February 2024.
