According to the Minister of Petroleum, Honourable Puot Kang Chol, South Sudan is currently producing 170,750 barrels of crude oil per day. During a recent committee meeting on petroleum, he provided this information and explained that this production rate is helping to combat the current global oil prices. In fact, as of April 5th, 2023, the country’s total daily production of crude oil was at this same level.

As the country relies heavily on oil exports to finance its activities, Mr. Chol highlighted that this production rate generates a potential revenue of 421 million dollars per month for the country’s economy. However, he also acknowledged that the committee on petroleum is exploring several ways to increase the country’s oil production rate despite the current global crisis caused by Russia’s actions.

Recently, Russia’s defense minister visited South Sudan, which has caused tensions between Russia and USA allies. As a result, the committee on petroleum discussed this issue and other factors that could impact the country’s oil production rate. Nevertheless, the minister remains optimistic about the future and is working to ensure that South Sudan can continue to produce oil at a sustainable level to support its economy.
