Mayor of Liverpool, Ned Mannoun, is encouraging residents across the city to take part in this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations, to be held on Wednesday, 9 July 2025 at Edwin Wheeler Oval in Sadleir.

The 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, honours the achievements and resilience of First Nations people and celebrates the emerging young leaders who are shaping a powerful future grounded in culture, identity, and community.

“This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week, a milestone that invites us all to reflect on the incredible strength and wisdom of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,” said Mayor Mannoun.

“We proudly recognise the deep and continuing connection that First Nations people have with this land. Their culture, heritage and enduring presence are central to Liverpool’s identity.”

“Our city is home to one of the most vibrant and diverse Indigenous populations in the country, and NAIDOC Week gives us the opportunity to come together, listen to stories, honour traditions, and celebrate community spirit,” he said.

The event will feature cultural performances, live music, arts and crafts, food stalls, community services, workshops and children’s activities, including a reptile petting zoo, spear throwing, and weaving workshops.

A strong focus will be placed on intergenerational connection, with Elders and young people sharing space, knowledge, and inspiration.

“NAIDOC 2025 is about legacy and looking forward,” Mayor Mannoun said.

“I encourage everyone—families, schools, service providers and local businesses—to get involved, show your support, and celebrate the strength and vision of our First Nations communities.”

The event is free to attend, with all ages welcome.
