Over the past two weeks, The Crest Athletic Ground in Bass Hill came alive with passion, teamwork, and community spirit as teams from the community competed in the ALFA Cup 2025, proudly organised by the Australian Lebanese Football Association (ALFA).
The tournament showcased outstanding athleticism and cultural pride, drawing enthusiastic crowds to support their favourite teams. After a series of thrilling matches, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Malta advanced to the semi-finals, which took place this Sunday at The Crest Sporting Complex.

In an exciting grand final, Iraq emerged as the ALFA Cup 2025 champions, defeating Lebanon with an impressive 3–1 victory. Malta secured third place after a strong performance against Palestine, rounding out a memorable competition.
The Golden Boot Award went to Marco Hanna from Iraq, who scored five goals throughout the tournament, earning well-deserved recognition for his skill and consistency.

The success of the event was made possible through the tireless efforts of the ALFA committee members, whose dedication and teamwork ensured a well-organised and enjoyable tournament for players and spectators alike. Sincere thanks were also extended to the ALFA Cup 2025 sponsors — Oz Arab Media, Bankstown RSL, the City of Canterbury Bankstown, Elite Ballerz, and the Australian Lebanese Cultural Union (ALCU) — for their invaluable support in promoting unity through sport.

Refereeing was professionally managed by Bankstown Football Referees (BDAFA), under the leadership of Mr Glenn Irish, ensuring fairness and high standards throughout the competition.
The closing ceremony was led by Mr Badwi Elhage, representing Dr Abraham Constantin, President of the Australian Lebanese Cultural Union (ALCU) Oceania, in the presence of a large crowd of supporters who gathered to celebrate the players’ achievements and the spirit of the game.

The ALFA Cup 2025 once again demonstrated how sport brings people together — celebrating cultural heritage, strengthening community ties, and showcasing the power of unity through football.
