The Commissioner of Nyirol County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, Peter Gatkuoth Koang, has firmly rejected allegations circulating on social media claiming that his administration is planning to attack members of the SPLM–IG (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–In Government) residing in the area.

Commissioner Koang described the rumours as “baseless and shameless,” reaffirming that his county government remains fully committed to the Revitalised Peace Agreement signed in Khartoum. He emphasised that both his administration and the SPLA–IO (Sudan People’s Liberation Army–In Opposition) continue to uphold peace and adhere to established operational principles.

“Our government has no plan or intention to attack any political representatives. Those spreading these lies are only seeking attention for their own benefit,” Koang stated. “Despite the challenges surrounding the peace agreements, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring peace prevails across South Sudan.”

The Commissioner stressed that his leadership would not tolerate any act of violence or provocation, highlighting that the people of Nyirol County deserve to live in harmony and continue their daily lives without fear. He further accused SPLM–IG area representative Bol Makuei of being responsible for spreading the false claims.

While Nyirol County remains largely calm, reports have emerged of renewed clashes between the SPLM and Kitwang IO forces loyal to Gatwic Dual in Uror County, where the SPLA–IO has accused government forces of bombing civilian areas.
