The Seattle Seahawks achieved glory in Santa Clara, thumping the New England Patriots 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium and lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time in franchise history.

Seattle looked dominant from the start with QB Sam Darnold completing passes and making first downs, while the Patriots’ defence struggled to defend, allowing easy passes to be completed. The majority of the points scored came from field goals, with kicker Jason Myers proving he can still kick accurately despite Levi’s Stadium being without a closed roof.

The Patriots 23 year old rookie QB Drake Maye struggled at Levi’s Stadium against a relentless Seahawks defence, who only allowed him to achieve 27-of-43 passing for 295 yards, but only 48 passing yards in the first half of the match. Throughout the game, Maye suffered six sacks by Seattle’s ruthless defence, which some say is the best in the league. Moreover, he endured two interceptions in the second half.

Despite the poor start, Maye eventually was able to read the Seahawks’ defence and score two touchdowns in the last two quarters of the game. He acknowledged that the Seahawks’ pressure was just too strong for his Patripots post match.

“Credit to them, we were moving it solid in the first couple drives, then had a couple of negative plays that would kind of put us behind the chains. Then from there, we just couldn’t stay ahead of the chains, third and short we couldn’t pick up first downs,” Maye said. “They had some pressure where they got us a few times.

“Got to be better with the football, make better decisions, and I’ve got to make better throws when the game is like that. I have to make some throws to move the football.”

While it was disappointing for Drake Maye and the Patriots overall, Sam Darnold proved that he can be a successful QB despite showing poor form while playing as a QB for his previous teams. Darnold achieved only 202 passing yards, a 50% passing completion and one touchdown.

But it was his ability to read the Patriots’ defence and stay composed that made him the better QB and helped his side win the Super Bowl. He was only sacked once throughout the game by the Patriots’ defence, who struggled.

Post match he expressed the journey he has endured to finally find success and the belief he had in himself. “I think that’s really what it comes down to – I’ve always believed in myself, and I’ve always had confidence in myself to do my job. And I learned,” said Darnold.

Nevertheless, Darnold was super proud of his team overall, but did mention that they could have been better offensively.

“To do this with this team, I wouldn’t want it any other way. So proud of our guys, our defense. I mean, I can’t say enough great things about our defense, our special teams.”

“I know we won the Super Bowl, but we could have been a little bit better on offence, but I don’t care about that right now. It’s an unbelievable feeling, man. I’m just so happy for the guys in the locker room and the coaches that put in so much effort throughout the whole season.”

Head coach Mike Macdonald was also super proud of his team and emphasised having belief as a team.“We never waver, man. We believe in each other. We love each other, and now we’re world champions.”

The Super Bowl LX MVP belonged to RB Kenneth Walker III, who had a solid game and 135 rushing yards on 27 carries and caught two passes for 26 yards to achieve a total of 161 scrimmage yards.

“Honestly, I feel like I’m just a team player,” Walker highlighted. “I’m not really focused on my personal gains. I just want to make the best impact on my team in the best way possible.”

This year’s Super Bowl was the second in a row to feature an Aussie playing and winning, with Seahawks punter Michael Dickson becoming another player from down under to win a Super Bowl. Last year, Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Tackle Jordan Mailata also won the Super Bowl when the Eagles defeated the Chiefs.

Bad Bunny performed at the Halftime Show featuring special guests Lady Gaga and many others. Now the Super Bowl will head to another Californian city next year, the city of angels, Los Angeles.
