Indirect talks between the United States and Iran wrapped up in Geneva with claims of significant progress, although few specifics were disclosed. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that further technical discussions are scheduled for next week in Vienna, suggesting that the dialogue is moving forward.

According to Al Jazeera, the mediator, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, indicated that both Iranian and US diplomats would consult their respective governments before the upcoming talks in Vienna. Araghchi described this round of discussions as the most serious and longest to date.

The Iranian delegation presented written proposals to Al Busaidi, who subsequently met with the US team led by envoy Steve Witkoff. The discussions also involved Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which will play a crucial role in monitoring any potential nuclear agreement.

Despite the reported progress, fundamental differences remain between the two nations, particularly concerning uranium enrichment and Iran’s ballistic missile program. The US has consistently opposed any enrichment activities on Iranian soil, while Iran has refused to negotiate its conventional weapon capabilities.

As the threat of conflict looms, ordinary Iranians are preparing for potential war, with many purchasing essential supplies. Rising inflation, currently exceeding 60 percent, has made it challenging for some citizens to stock up on necessities, further complicating the situation in the country.
