Two new teams are set to join Formula 1 in 2026, representing automotive giants Cadillac and Audi. Both companies share the ambition of competing for the championship, but they approach the challenge with distinctly different strategies.

Audi has taken over the Sauber team, marking the Volkswagen Group’s entry into Formula 1. The company aims to leverage the new hybrid engine rules to enhance its marketing efforts for road cars. Audi’s team principal, Jonathan Wheatley, expressed a clear goal: to transform Audi into the most successful team in F1 history. According to BBC News, Audi is targeting competitive performance within five years.

On the other hand, Cadillac, under the umbrella of General Motors, is establishing a completely new team in collaboration with TWG. Their journey to F1 has been fraught with challenges, including political hurdles. Cadillac’s team principal, Graeme Lowdon, emphasized their ambitious outlook, though specific timelines remain vague. Cadillac’s entry was confirmed after overcoming initial setbacks and reconfiguring their bid following F1’s rejection of the Andretti team’s initial proposal.

Both teams are aware of the significant work ahead. Audi’s recent management changes have begun to yield results, with Sauber showing improved performance. Meanwhile, Cadillac is in the early stages of building its team from the ground up, with plans for a future engine development set for 2029.

As the new season approaches, both teams are eager to carve out their identities and compete in the challenging world of Formula 1, each with their unique approaches and aspirations.
