Arabic version: المملكة المتحدة تسمح للولايات المتحدة باستخدام القواعد العسكرية لضربات دفاعية على إيران
According to BBC News,
The UK has agreed to a US request to use British military bases for “defensive” strikes on Iranian missile sites, Sir Keir Starmer has said. The Prime Minister emphasized that this decision was made in light of lessons learned from the “mistakes of Iraq” and asserted that the UK will not join offensive action now against Iran.
Starmer stated that the basis for allowing the US request is rooted in the collective self-defense of allies and the protection of British lives. He accused Iran of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy” and affirmed that the actions to be taken will comply with international law. A summary of the legal advice supporting this decision will be published by the UK government.
The US is expected to utilize RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean for these operations. Starmer noted that the strikes aim to destroy Iran’s missiles “at source”. He also highlighted that UK aircraft are “in the sky” in the Middle East as part of a defensive operation to protect its allies and citizens in the region.
In a recent video statement, Starmer reassured the public that the UK is “not involved in the strikes on Iran”, while acknowledging the risks faced by British nationals in the area. He stated that the UK government is committed to doing everything possible to protect its citizens and allies from Iranian aggression. The situation remains tense as both the US and Israel have initiated attacks on Iran, prompting retaliatory actions from the Iranian regime against US assets in the region.
