The Oscar race is heating up as voting has officially closed, marking the end of the extensive campaigns for this year’s nominees. With the red carpets rolled up and hospitality pavilions shut down, the industry now turns its attention to the upcoming awards ceremony. According to The Guardian, the focus is particularly on the film “Sinners,” which has gained significant traction following a notable win at the Actor awards.

Michael B Jordan’s surprise victory at the Actor awards has sparked discussions among industry insiders, suggesting that “Sinners” may have shifted momentum in its favor. The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, is in a competitive race against Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” which features Leonardo DiCaprio. With a record 16 Oscar nominations, “Sinners” is poised to make a strong showing at the Academy Awards.

Commentators from various publications have weighed in on the implications of Jordan’s win. Variety’s Clayton Davis noted that the dynamics of the Oscar season have changed, while Deadline’s Pete Hammond remarked on the film’s newfound wave of momentum. The Hollywood Reporter also indicated that the preferential-ballot system could work in favor of “Sinners.”

In addition to the competition for Best Picture, anonymous voter opinions suggest that Jessie Buckley is a frontrunner for Best Actress, while Sean Penn is experiencing a late surge for Best Supporting Actor. However, Timothée Chalamet’s chances for Best Actor appear to be dwindling, especially with Robert Aramayo’s recent success at the Baftas.

As the Oscars ceremony approaches, the Academy has announced a lineup of presenters, including Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. Additionally, a tribute to the late Robert Redford is in the works, along with an In Memoriam section honoring fellow filmmaker Rob Reiner. The awards will take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
