A Clumber spaniel named Bruin has been crowned best in show at Crufts 2026. This year’s competition featured just shy of 19,000 dogs, drawing canine enthusiasts from around the globe to Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). Bruin, handled by owner Lee Cox, previously secured victory in the Gundog group before clinching the top honor.

According to BBC News, Cox expressed his disbelief and joy upon receiving the rosette, stating, “It’s just wonderful for this breed. He’s the dog of a lifetime. He’s really, really special.” Along with the title, Cox and Bruin were awarded the Kendall Memorial Trophy and a cash prize of £200.

The competition included other notable contenders such as a Tibetan mastiff named Viking, a Pembroke Welsh corgi called Hazel, and a miniature schnauzer named Spencer. The reserve dog, chosen by judge Tamas Jakkel, was a petit basset griffon vendeen named Meghan, from Croatia, who earlier won the Hound group.

Cox described Bruin as “a bit of a diva” who enjoys having things his own way but assured that the spaniel would never let him down. Jannine Edgar, chief executive of the Royal Kennel Club, praised the bond and skill demonstrated by Cox and Bruin throughout the competition, declaring them thoroughly deserving champions.

This year’s Crufts event welcomed 18,698 dogs, marking an increase of 123 entries compared to 2025. Last year’s best in show was a whippet named Miuccia from Italy.
