A man convicted of killing prominent Perth music promoter Andrew Scally in a street fight has been sentenced to more than six years in prison. According to ABC News, Jardyn Rigo must serve at least four years and three months in jail before being eligible for parole.

In September 2025, Rigo refused to leave a residence in Kensington when his former partner called her longtime friend Mr. Scally for help. The WA Supreme Court heard that Mr. Scally, responsible for bringing headline pop and electronic artists to Australia, was repeatedly punched by Rigo and died at the scene.

The court detailed how the altercation began when Rigo tackled Mr. Scally outside the Kensington home. CCTV footage captured Rigo pinning Mr. Scally to the ground and continuing to punch him, even after Mr. Scally pleaded, “I can’t breathe.” At one point, Rigo attempted to search Mr. Scally’s jeans for drugs.

Authorities pronounced Mr. Scally dead upon their arrival. The court heard that the physical exertion from the fight may have triggered a significant cardiac arrest, with a post-mortem report indicating Mr. Scally died from multi-factorial heart disease as a result of methylamphetamine use.

Judge Terrence Palmer noted that while Rigo did not intend for the assault to cause death, his actions were troubling. He emphasized that Rigo had the opportunity to stop but chose not to. The judge stated that Mr. Scally’s death has had a devastating effect on his family. Rigo, who had pleaded guilty to unlawful assault on a person who died as a result of the assault, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison, backdated to September 2023 to account for time already served.
