Arabic version: إيران تنفذ حكم الإعدام بحق ثلاثة أشخاص بتهمة قتل الشرطة خلال الاضطرابات الأخيرة
Iran has executed three individuals convicted of killing police officers during unrest earlier this year, according to Al Jazeera. The judiciary reported that the executions occurred during the ongoing war, which has now entered its 20th day.
The three were implicated in operations supporting the United States and Israel and were found guilty of murder related to the Dey unrest in January. The judiciary’s Mizan Online website stated that these individuals were involved in the deaths of two law enforcement personnel.
Iranian authorities have claimed that 3,117 people died during anti-establishment protests that erupted in late December, rejecting higher estimates from the United Nations and various international human rights organizations. A UN special rapporteur suggested that the actual death toll could exceed 20,000, despite state-imposed internet restrictions.
In a broader crackdown, Iranian authorities have recently executed a Swedish citizen accused of being an Israeli spy and announced hundreds of new arrests across the country. The Ministry of Intelligence stated that it had disrupted 111 “pro-monarchy cells” across 26 provinces, aiming to counter what they label as traitors aligned with U.S. and Israeli interests.
