Arabic version: إيران تنفي مزاعم التفاوض مع الولايات المتحدة بعد تصريحات ترامب
Iranian officials have firmly denied any negotiations with the United States, following claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding ‘very good and productive conversations.’ Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated on social media that ‘no negotiations have been held with the US.’ According to Al Jazeera, Ghalibaf described Trump’s statements as ‘fakenews’ intended to manipulate markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped.
The denials come as the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran enters its fourth week, with renewed attacks reported in Tehran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei also dismissed the idea of discussions, noting that while messages have been received from friendly nations regarding US requests, no direct talks occurred.
In a recent social media post, Trump announced a temporary halt to military strikes on Iranian power plants, contingent on the success of supposed negotiations. He indicated that discussions took place with ‘a top person’ in Iran, although no specific individual was identified. The US president expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, stating that both sides want to make a deal.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed discussions with Trump, suggesting that the conflict might be leveraged to achieve a settlement. He emphasized that Israel would continue its military operations in the region while pursuing its interests in any potential agreement. Amid these developments, regional players are reportedly seeking to de-escalate tensions between Iran and the US, although the effectiveness of these efforts remains uncertain.
