Arabic version: بانون يدعو إلى وجود ICE في المطارات كاختبار للانتخابات النصفية
Former White House strategist Steve Bannon has suggested that the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at airports serves as a ‘test run’ for their potential presence at polling stations during the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking on his ‘War Room’ podcast, Bannon indicated that the current situation with ICE at airports could help ‘really perfect ICE’s involvement in the 2026 midterm elections.’
According to The Guardian, Bannon emphasized that this initiative could ensure that individuals who are not legally permitted to vote do not interfere with the electoral process. His comments come as ICE agents have been reported at various airports across the United States, including major hubs like Atlanta and New York’s JFK.
Bannon’s remarks reflect a broader Republican strategy aimed at increasing the presence of federal immigration enforcement in contexts related to voting. He argued that having ICE at polling places would reassure American citizens that illegal voting would be curtailed.
The deployment of ICE officers at airports has coincided with reports of long security lines due to unpaid TSA agents refusing to work. This has drawn attention to the government’s immigration enforcement measures as they relate to both travel and voting rights in the United States.
