Arabic version: لاهور قلندرز يواجهون عقوبة بسبب التلاعب بالكرة في مباراة PSL
Lahore Qalandars were penalised for ball tampering during their Pakistan Super League defeat by Karachi Kings. The incident occurred before the final over, when the Kings, needing 14 runs to win, were awarded five penalty runs after umpires determined that a Qalandars player had unfairly altered the condition of the ball.
According to BBC News, the offence was initially seen by the TV umpire before the on-field umpires gave the punishment. Following the penalty, the Kings required just nine runs from the remaining six balls, ultimately securing victory with three balls to spare.
After the match, Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi expressed uncertainty about the incident, stating, “I don’t know about this. We will see if it is that in the camera. We will discuss.” Cricket laws prohibit players from altering the ball’s condition, except for shining it, as outlined in Law 41.3.2.
The PSL’s regulations stipulate that umpires must report such incidents to the match referee, who will decide on appropriate actions against the involved players. David Warner, who was captaining Karachi during the match, is notably known for his previous involvement in the Australia ball-tampering scandal in 2018.
