A 13-year-old girl has been charged with 52 offences following a spree of motor vehicle crimes in Melbourne’s south-east, including antisemitic incidents. According to ABC News, the teenager was arrested on Tuesday morning and has been remanded to appear at a children’s court.
The girl allegedly stole a black Hyundai sedan from a gym in Caulfield, using it to commit various crimes over the past week in Hampton, Ripponlea, and Caulfield. Reports indicate that she drove the stolen vehicle while passengers shouted antisemitic remarks and threw eggs at pedestrians.
In one troubling incident, the girl is accused of swerving the car towards a group of people from the Jewish community in Ripponlea as they crossed the road. Additionally, she was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Brighton on Monday night, where a cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a stolen silver SUV.
The crime spree continued early Tuesday, with the teenage girl and accomplices allegedly ramming a stolen Volkswagen Golf into an e-scooter in Elwood. The offenders fled the scene but were later apprehended after leading police on a chase across several major roads.
Victoria Police have charged the girl with multiple counts of theft, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, and threatening physical harm based on protected attributes. Two other girls, aged 16 and 13, were also arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle and handle stolen goods, and their cases are pending in children’s court. Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging witnesses with relevant footage to come forward.
