Robert Bush, a funeral director, has pleaded guilty to serious offenses involving the mishandling of deceased individuals and theft of charitable donations. According to BBC News, Bush admitted to preventing the burials of 30 bodies and stealing donations made to charities by mourners.
The 48-year-old, who was arrested following a police investigation into Hull-based Legacy Independent Funeral Directors, faced charges after a report raised concerns regarding the care of the deceased in March 2024. Bush, formerly of East Yorkshire and now living in West Yorkshire, entered his guilty pleas at Hull Crown Court.
In addition to the 30 counts of preventing lawful and decent burials, Bush also pleaded guilty to one count of theft related to charitable donations. He has previously acknowledged presenting families with the ashes of strangers and fraudulently selling funeral plans.
Bush is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date, as the case continues to unfold. This incident has raised significant concerns over the practices of funeral homes and the treatment of the deceased.
