Arabic version: طفلة تبلغ من العمر سبعة أشهر تُقتل برصاصة في إطلاق نار عصابي في بروكلين
According to BBC News,
A seven-month-old girl, named Kaori Patterson-Moore, was shot and killed while sitting in her pushchair in Brooklyn, New York City, during what police believe was a gang-related incident. The shooting occurred in broad daylight, with footage showing two men on a motorcycle riding against the flow of traffic when the backseat passenger opened fire, discharging at least two rounds, according to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
The motorcycle crashed shortly after the shooting, leading to the apprehension of one suspect, while a manhunt is underway for the driver. Kaori’s mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, tearfully expressed her profound grief, stating, “She’s gone, and I can’t ever see her again. I can’t smell her, can’t kiss her. I can’t wake up and feed her her bottle. I can’t dress her. Everything I wanted to do with her, I can’t do with her anymore.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized the tragedy of the event, noting that a life that had barely begun was taken in an instant. He stated, “Today is a devastating reminder of how much more work there is to be done to combat gun violence across this city.”
Witnesses reported that several adults and children, two of whom were in buggies, were present on the street corner when the gunfire erupted. Kaori’s parents sought refuge in a nearby store, where they discovered their child had been shot. Emergency services responded quickly, but Kaori was pronounced dead at Woodhull Hospital shortly after arrival. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
Tisch expressed her condolences, stating, “As a mother, I cannot imagine the pain that this family is feeling or the grief that they now carry with them. It is unspeakable.” The police are continuing their investigation into the shooting, with no charges filed at this time.
