Arabic version: هاري وميغان يلتقيان بضحايا إطلاق النار في بوندي خلال زيارتهما لأستراليا
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met with survivors and emergency responders from the Bondi Beach shooting during their Australian visit. According to BBC News, the couple spoke to volunteer lifeguards and community leaders at the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club, where 15 people were killed and 40 injured at a Hannukah event in December.
On Friday morning, Prince Harry and Meghan interacted with Jessica Chapnik Khan and Elon Zizer, both of whom survived the shootings while shielding their children. The lifeguards were hailed as heroes for protecting members of the public during the attack and were also present for the meeting.
Representatives from the Sydney Jewish Museum attended the event, describing Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit as “really special” as they prepare to open an exhibition dedicated to the tragic shooting.
Following their engagement at Bondi, Harry and Meghan participated in a sailing event with Invictus Australia, where they were greeted by fans at the Sydney Opera House. They received customized flip-flops from a veteran, which prompted Harry to joke about typically receiving “budgie smugglers.” The couple’s visit marks their first trip to Australia since 2018, when they last attended the Invictus Games, a competition for wounded military veterans founded by Prince Harry.
