Carlton Football Club has confirmed that player Elijah Hollands has been admitted to hospital following troubling events during Thursday night’s game against Collingwood. The club has requested that the privacy of Hollands and his family be respected during this time.

According to ABC News, Hollands suffered a mental health episode during the match. Although he had communicated to club officials before the game that he was struggling with his mental health, he was still eager to participate.

Despite his struggles, Hollands played in the game but failed to register a stat and appeared out of sorts. Blues CEO Graham Wright acknowledged that officials were aware of his condition during the game, and the club is now reviewing the circumstances leading up to the match.

Wright emphasized that the club’s primary focus is on Hollands’ care, ensuring he receives the necessary medical and wellbeing support. The situation has prompted an investigation by the AFL and AFL Players’ Association, as the club takes the matter seriously and aims to provide the best resources for Hollands’ welfare.
