Arabic version: أبل تعين جون تيرنوس كمدير تنفيذي جديد بعد مغادرة تيم كوك
Apple has officially announced that John Ternus will succeed Tim Cook as chief executive, effective September 1. Ternus, who has been with the company for 25 years and currently leads hardware engineering, will take over as Cook transitions to the role of executive chairman. Cook, who has been at the helm since 2011, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead Apple, calling it “the greatest privilege of my life.” According to BBC News, Cook will remain involved in certain company aspects, including engaging with policymakers around the world.
During his tenure, Cook oversaw a remarkable increase in Apple’s value, with the company becoming the first public entity to reach a $1 trillion valuation in 2018, and currently valued at $4 trillion. Ternus is recognized as a visionary leader, having contributed to nearly every major product launch, including every generation of the iPad, many generations of the iPhone, and the launch of AirPods and the Apple Watch. His extensive experience positions him to drive innovation at Apple, which has faced criticism for a perceived lack of groundbreaking products under Cook’s leadership.
Analysts have noted that Ternus’s appointment may signal a shift toward more innovative product development, especially in areas like foldable phones and wearable technology. The tech giant has also been critiqued for its slow response to the rising demand for artificial intelligence solutions. Ternus’s hardware-focused background could lead to more aggressive integration of AI into Apple’s offerings.
As Cook prepares to step down, the industry is watching closely to see whether Ternus can navigate Apple through new challenges and opportunities, particularly as competitors like Google and Microsoft invest heavily in AI advancements. The question remains whether Apple can balance its operational strengths with a renewed focus on exploration and rapid innovation.
