Arabic version: زعيم الوطنيين ينتقد التركيز على التنوع في تجمع مناهض للهجرة
Matt Canavan, the leader of the Nationals party, addressed an anti-immigration rally outside Parliament House in Canberra, stating that Australia has focused too much on diversity and not enough on unifying. According to The Guardian, he called for better standards in migration and indicated a desire to reduce immigration numbers.
Canavan’s remarks came as he preceded One Nation leader Pauline Hanson on stage, who has faced criticism for her views on Muslim Australians. He emphasized the need for Australia to prioritize unifying over discussions of diversity, asserting that those who do not share Australian values should be deported.
Angus Taylor, the Liberal leader, echoed similar sentiments, stating that migration standards have been too low. He refrained from criticizing Hanson, suggesting there are areas of agreement between the parties on migration issues.
The rally reflects ongoing debates in Australian politics regarding immigration and national identity, with leaders advocating for stricter immigration policies and a focus on shared values among citizens.
