There have been increasing calls for an official investigation into the incident involving the presence of a player’s guardian at a handball match for the 2012 girls’ team of Smouha Club against Sporting Club. This match took place at City Club in Kafr al-Sheikh, in violation of the Egyptian Handball Federation’s decision that prohibits guardians from attending matches in the final stages. Only coaching, administrative, and medical staff were allowed inside the venue.
According to observations made during the match, the guardian was present in the hall from the start of the game and was positioned behind one of the banners, which was a clear violation of the competition regulations.
Additionally, sources monitoring the match noted that photography within the hall was strictly prohibited. Security measures were intensified, and any form of photography was banned in compliance with the regulations governing access to the venue.
These sources reported that the incident caught the security forces off guard. Upon notifying the Egyptian Handball Federation officials of the guardian’s presence, immediate action was taken to ask her to leave the hall. This request was made after the president of the federation became aware of the situation, directing her to exit the handball hall at City Club in Kafr al-Sheikh without delay.
Questions have also arisen regarding the role of the Alexandria Handball Association in overseeing the enforcement of the ban on guardians attending matches, as it is the administrative body responsible for the team involved in the incident.
Sports sources have called for a formal investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that the competition regulations are applied equally to all teams, thereby upholding the principles of fairness and equal opportunity among the participating teams.
