The Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Australia and New Zealand has issued a strongly worded statement expressing “profound concern” over what it describes as grave and rapidly escalating developments involving military aggression linked to Ethiopian and Emirati actors.
In the statement, released from Canberra on 6 May 2026, the Embassy accused the parties involved of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and sovereign facilities. It warned that such actions represent a dangerous escalation with the potential to destabilise not only Sudan but the broader region.
“The deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure and sovereign facilities constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the stability of Sudan and the wider region,” the statement read.
The Embassy has formally called on both the Australian Government and the Government of New Zealand to take a clear and unequivocal stance by condemning the alleged attacks. It emphasised that silence in the face of such incidents risks encouraging further violations and undermining the foundations of international law.
According to the statement, the actions in question breach key principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity—cornerstones of international relations. The Embassy argued that failure to respond decisively could erode the norms that govern peaceful engagement between nations.
“These actions constitute a clear violation of international law and undermine the norms that govern peaceful relations between states,” the statement added.
The release reflects growing diplomatic tensions surrounding the situation and signals Sudan’s intent to rally international support. It also places pressure on regional partners, including Australia and New Zealand, to respond publicly to the allegations.
The statement was officially issued from Canberra and bears the Embassy’s seal, underscoring its formal diplomatic significance.
