Arabic version: الغارات الجوية الإسرائيلية تودي بحياة 51 شخصًا، تستهدف العاملين في المجال الطبي في لبنان
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours have resulted in the deaths of 51 individuals, including two medical workers. The ministry condemned these actions, stating that the Israeli forces continue to violate international laws and humanitarian norms by directly targeting health facilities in the regions of Qalawiya and Tibnin, Bint Jbeil district.
According to Al Jazeera, since March 2, when Israeli forces initiated a new military operation, the death toll across Lebanon has reached 2,846, with at least 103 medical workers killed and 230 injured in more than 130 Israeli strikes.
Ali Safiuddin, head of the Lebanese Civil Defence in Tyre, expressed the constant threat faced by medical personnel, revealing the psychological toll of working in such hazardous conditions. He stated that the situation leaves them questioning their survival amidst the ongoing violence.
Despite a ceasefire that commenced on April 16, the frequency of attacks has escalated, displacing more than 1.2 million Lebanese individuals since the start of the military operation. Reports from the region highlight the urgent need for protection of medical personnel, as international humanitarian laws stipulate that they should be safeguarded during armed conflicts.
Dr. Tahir Mohammed, a war surgeon with experience in both Gaza and Lebanon, remarked on the alarming similarities in the targeting of healthcare workers in both conflict zones. He emphasized the dire situation faced by medical teams, who are often caught in the crossfire of ongoing violence, raising serious concerns about their safety and ability to respond to emergencies.
