Arabic version: دوا ليبا تقاضي سامسونج بسبب استخدام صورتها
Dua Lipa has initiated legal action against Samsung Electronics, claiming the tech company used her likeness without authorization to promote its television sets. According to ABC News, the lawsuit was filed in federal court in California and seeks at least $15 million in damages.
The lawsuit contends that Samsung featured a copyrighted image of Lipa on the packaging of its TVs, which misled consumers into believing she endorsed the product. The specific image in question is titled “Dua Lipa — Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024,” and Lipa asserts that she holds all rights to this image.
Lipa’s legal team argues that the unauthorized use of her image has harmed her brand identity and commercial goodwill. They allege that the presence of her likeness on the television boxes has influenced potential buyers, as evidenced by social media comments expressing intentions to purchase the TV solely because of her image.
The Levitating singer became aware of Samsung’s alleged infringement in June last year and demanded Samsung stop using her image, but the electronics manufacturer repeatedly refused to do so, her lawyers said. Samsung has declined to comment on the ongoing litigation, while Lipa’s representatives have not provided immediate responses regarding the case.
