Arabic version: عراقي متهم بالإرهاب في الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا
Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, an Iraqi national, has been arrested and charged by the US justice department for his alleged involvement in nearly 20 terror attacks and plots across the United States and Europe. According to The Guardian, the charges against al-Saadi include conspiracy to provide material support to foreign terrorist organizations, conspiracy to bomb a place of public use, and attempted destruction of property by means of fire or explosives.
Al-Saadi, who has been linked to the Iraqi paramilitary group Kata’ib Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), appeared in federal court in Manhattan. The justice department claims he worked closely with Qassem Suleimani, a former IRGC commander killed in a US airstrike in 2020, and was involved in a firebombing attack on New York Mellon in Amsterdam.
The complaint also details al-Saadi’s alleged connections to various violent incidents targeting Jewish institutions, including an arson attack on a synagogue in Skopje, North Macedonia, and the stabbing of two Jewish men in London. These attacks have raised significant concerns, particularly in the UK, where Jewish community centers and synagogues have been targeted.
In addition to these activities, al-Saadi is accused of attempting to coordinate attacks on Jewish institutions in New York, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale. Following his arrest, US officials emphasized the importance of disrupting foreign terrorist organizations that pose threats to American citizens and allies.
Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that law enforcement will continue to combat such threats, while New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch highlighted the global risks posed by the Iranian regime and its proxies.
