Arabic version: لبنان يمدد وقف إطلاق النار وإيران تشير إلى انفتاحها على المحادثات
Lebanon has welcomed an agreement with Israel to extend a fragile ceasefire by 45 days beyond Sunday’s deadline following talks in the United States, even as Israeli forces continued attacks on towns and villages in southern Lebanon. According to Al Jazeera, at least 12 people were killed on Friday, including three paramedics, amid the violence.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated during a BRICS meeting that Tehran has received communication from the administration of US President Donald Trump indicating openness to new negotiations aimed at ending the war. However, Araghchi noted that a deadlock persists regarding Iran’s enriched nuclear material.
Trump has suggested he could be open to Iran placing its civilian nuclear program on hold for two decades, contingent upon Tehran demonstrating a genuine commitment to a broader agreement. Araghchi expressed openness to any support in these discussions, particularly from China.
In a related development, the United Arab Emirates announced plans to accelerate construction of a new ADNOC pipeline linking Abu Dhabi to Fujairah to double oil export capacity outside the Strait of Hormuz by 2027. Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its military operations in southern Lebanon, claiming to have killed more than 220 Hezbollah fighters and struck more than 440 targets in the region over the past week.
