Arabic version: ترامب يدعي أن شي وعد بعدم إرسال أسلحة إلى إيران

United States President Donald Trump stated that Chinese leader Xi Jinping assured him that China would not send weapons to Iran during the ongoing war. This declaration followed Trump’s recent three-day visit to China, where he praised several trade agreements but did not achieve significant progress regarding the US-Israel war on Iran. According to Al Jazeera, Trump expressed confidence in Xi’s promise, calling it a “beautiful promise” during a White House event.

Trump emphasized that Xi shares his interest in keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. Earlier, US officials had sent mixed signals about their expectations from the meeting with Xi, indicating a desire for China to leverage its influence over Iran for a more lasting ceasefire, while downplaying the significance of the war in discussions.

The Chinese government has historically taken a cautious approach regarding its involvement in the conflict, and there has been little indication that this stance will change following the meeting. Meanwhile, Trump has issued a new warning to Iran, stating that the “Clock is Ticking” for reaching a more durable ceasefire beyond the current pause in fighting, which has been in effect since April 8.

In a separate statement, Trump revealed he had postponed a planned military strike against Iran at the behest of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, suggesting that serious negotiations are underway. He mentioned that he was “an hour away from making the decision to go today” but decided to allow Iran a limited timeframe to engage in negotiations, potentially extending until early next week. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have signaled that any new US military action would provoke a strong response from Iran, indicating a tense atmosphere as diplomatic efforts continue.
