A public forum titled AUKUS – A Toxic Alliance will take place in Parramatta on Saturday 23 May, bringing together political representatives, academics, and human rights advocates to discuss the implications of the AUKUS pact and Australia’s relationship with the United States.
The event will be held at Leigh Memorial Uniting Church, 119 Macquarie Street, Parramatta, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, and is being promoted as a free community event.
According to the organisers, the forum aims to examine the broader consequences of the AUKUS agreement, particularly in relation to Australia’s foreign policy, military priorities, and regional stability. Promotional material for the event describes AUKUS as “Australia’s dangerous US relationship” and encourages discussion around alternatives to current defence strategies.
The panel features several prominent speakers, including:
- David Shoebridge, Federal Greens Senator for NSW and member of the Senate committee investigating AUKUS.
- Rawan Arraf, a lawyer and human rights advocate focused on international law and refugee rights.
- Dr Jamie Reilly, a specialist in nuclear non-proliferation and China studies.
- The event will also feature an introduction by Shaykh Wesam Charkawi from The Muslim Vote.
Promotional material states that the discussion will explore “the real impact of our toxic alliance with the US and real alternatives for Australia’s foreign policy future.”
The forum is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to register in advance.
