Arabic version: إيران تقيم الاقتراح الأمريكي بينما تعزز باكستان جهود الوساطة
Iran says it is reviewing the latest responses from the United States to its proposal to end the nearly three-month US-Israel war on Iran. According to Al Jazeera, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that discussions are underway following the US’s latest views.
The situation has escalated as Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is set to visit Tehran for discussions with Iranian officials. This visit comes shortly after Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s second trip to Iran in less than a week, aimed at facilitating dialogue regarding the US proposal. Previous negotiations hosted by Pakistan had ended without agreement, as Iran accused the US of making “excessive demands”.
US President Donald Trump has indicated that the negotiations are at a critical juncture, warning that a failure to reach an agreement could lead to renewed military actions against Iran. Trump has stated he is willing to wait a few days for a satisfactory response from Tehran, having previously set and then extended deadlines for negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed readiness for either continued negotiations or military engagement, stating that the country is prepared to respond robustly depending on the circumstances. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has also issued a warning against any further aggression, indicating that any renewed attacks could escalate into a broader conflict.
Iran submitted its latest proposal to the US this week, which builds on its original 14-point plan and includes demands for Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, reparations for war damage, lifting of sanctions, and the withdrawal of US troops. Analysts suggest that Iran’s strategic focus on the Strait of Hormuz has shifted the dynamics of the negotiations, placing the US in a defensive position as it seeks to redirect attention to other issues.
