Arabic version: سفير أمريكي سابق ينتقد اتفاق إيران ويحذر من التصعيد
Dan Shapiro, the former US ambassador to Israel, has expressed his views on the reported agreement between Washington and Tehran, labeling it a “weak deal”. However, he contends that this agreement is preferable to further military escalation. According to Middle East Eye, Shapiro criticized the conflict as poorly conceived, lacking clear strategic objectives achievable at an acceptable cost.
In a post on X, Shapiro noted that the reported agreement is one of the “less terrible” options available to President Donald Trump. He welcomed the apparent decision to avoid intensifying the conflict, cautioning that further escalation could lead to a deeper global economic crisis.
Shapiro also pointed out that the United States has not met its objectives concerning Iran’s ballistic missile program and regional allies, calling the reported outcome a “bleak day” for US interests. He emphasized the significant damage the ongoing conflict has inflicted on US strategic interests, despite acknowledging the deal’s flaws.
