Arabic version: حكم على سائقين بسبب حادث مميت بسرعة 139 ميل في الساعة في مانشستر
Two men have been sentenced for their roles in a fatal crash that occurred while they were driving at speeds exceeding 130mph in a 30mph zone. Uways Hussain and Usmon Mahmood were jailed after their reckless driving led to the death of 50-year-old Sylvester Abayomi in Manchester.
According to BBC News, Hussain received a sentence of 11 years and eight months for causing death by dangerous driving, while Mahmood was sentenced to 12 years and nine months for aiding and abetting that offense. The incident took place on 9 March when Hussain, who was driving the vehicle owned by Mahmood, ran a red light and struck Abayomi, who had entered the intersection on a green light.
During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Dean described the crash as “wholly unnecessary and entirely avoidable,” highlighting the sustained and deliberate nature of the dangerous conduct exhibited by the two men. Greater Manchester Police characterized the case as one of the worst examples of reckless driving they had encountered.
In a statement, Abayomi’s partner Denise expressed her grief, calling him “the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet.” She added that he would be deeply missed by all who knew him. Det Sgt Thomas Johnson from Greater Manchester Police reiterated the tragic consequences of Hussain and Mahmood’s actions, emphasizing the need for the public to report dangerous driving behavior to authorities.
