Arabic version: نتنياهو يقلل من التوترات مع ترامب بشأن الصراع في لبنان
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has downplayed reports of a rift with U.S. President Donald Trump following Trump’s recent comments describing Netanyahu as “f****ing crazy”. In an interview with CNBC, Netanyahu emphasized that his relationship with Trump remains strong, stating, “No, this has been a great relationship because he’s been the greatest friend that Israel has ever had in the White House.” According to Al Jazeera, Netanyahu asserted that both leaders share mutual respect and common goals, despite occasional tactical disagreements.
The remarks come in light of Trump’s criticism regarding Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. Trump expressed his displeasure during a recent call with Netanyahu, describing his concern over Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hezbollah and its impact on U.S.-Iran discussions. Despite the tensions, Trump praised Netanyahu, stating that they “work well” together.
Netanyahu reiterated that both he and Trump are aligned in their objective to disarm Hezbollah, which he claims has taken Lebanon hostage. He stressed the need for peace in Lebanon and highlighted that disarming Hezbollah is essential for achieving long-term stability in the region. The Israeli prime minister’s comments reflect a desire to maintain a cooperative relationship with the U.S. while navigating the complexities of regional conflicts.
The situation in Lebanon remains critical, with ongoing Israeli military actions contributing to significant displacement and destruction. Despite talks between Israeli and Lebanese officials, no ceasefire has been reached, and the conflict continues to escalate. Netanyahu’s insistence on the necessity of disarming Hezbollah signals a potentially new phase in Israel’s strategy toward Lebanon, aiming for broader regional security and stability.
