Spencer Pratt, the ex-reality TV star, attempted to position himself as the solution to Los Angeles’s challenges during his campaign for mayor. According to The Guardian, he attracted attention from disillusioned voters with his criticisms of city leadership and viral social media posts, including AI-generated campaign ads depicting an apocalyptic Los Angeles.

Despite this online engagement, Pratt’s lack of political experience and affiliation with the Republican Party hindered his efforts in a predominantly Democratic city. In the primary election, progressive city councilor Nithya Raman edged out Pratt, who received 25.8% of the vote compared to Raman’s 28.6% and incumbent Karen Bass’s 34.3%.

Pratt has not conceded the election and has made few comments on social media since the primary. He did, however, suggest without evidence that Raman had mobilized unhoused individuals to vote for her. His campaign, launched in January 2025 following the loss of his home to wildfires, focused on issues like the cost of living and homelessness, which resonate with many Angelenos.

Political analysts noted that while Pratt effectively voiced voter frustrations, his appeal was limited in a city where moderate and progressive voters dominate. Jim Newton, a veteran journalist, remarked that the significant support for Pratt reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Los Angeles. The upcoming election will now see Raman face off against Bass, highlighting ongoing divisions within the Democratic Party.
