Arabic version: ترامب يشدد الخطاب العسكري ضد إيران ويواصل الضربات
President Donald Trump has escalated his rhetoric against Iran, indicating that the U.S. military may continue its strikes in response to a recent incident involving the downing of a helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. According to Al Jazeera, Trump stated, “I may keep going,” during an interview with Fox News.
The U.S. military began targeting locations in Iran on Tuesday, and Trump emphasized his commitment to continuing these actions, remarking that Iran had an opportunity to negotiate a deal but failed to do so. He warned, “We’re going to be attacking them, attacking them very hard,” during an Oval Office event.
In retaliation to the U.S. strikes, Iran has launched missiles at bases housing U.S. forces in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. Despite the back-and-forth nature of these attacks, Trump’s latest comments suggest a potential escalation in hostilities, raising concerns about the stability of the ceasefire established on April 8.
Trump criticized Iran for delaying negotiations, asserting that they have “taken too long” to reach an agreement. He reiterated threats to target Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, despite international concerns regarding the legality of such actions. Iranian officials, however, have made it clear that they will not sign any agreement that does not acknowledge their rights.
Amid rising tensions, Iranian leaders have expressed their determination to resist U.S. threats, with Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Haji Babaei, stating that diplomacy will only succeed if it aligns with the demands of the Iranian nation. Meanwhile, criticism of Trump’s handling of the situation continues domestically, with some lawmakers suggesting that he has lost control over the conflict and is more focused on his political ambitions than on effective governance.
