Arabic version: تينا داهلي تتنحى عن برنامج الإفطار في بي بي سي راديو 2
Tina Daheley has announced she is stepping down as the newsreader on BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show after seven years. Her exit comes a couple of weeks before Sara Cox takes over the morning show as the new permanent host, after Scott Mills was sacked by the BBC in March. Daheley’s announcement was made live on air, marking the conclusion of an 18-year career filled with early morning news reading.
According to BBC News, Daheley expressed that her role as newsreader has been one of the “greatest privileges” of her life. She plans to continue her association with the BBC by filling in for Jeremy Vine’s lunchtime show when he is absent. In her farewell message on Instagram, she reflected on her journey, which began at 1Xtra, and expressed excitement for a more relaxed morning routine.
The BBC has not yet announced a replacement for Daheley as the newsreader for Cox’s upcoming breakfast show. Since Mills’ departure, Gary Davies has been covering the Radio 2 breakfast show. Daheley’s exit has drawn reactions from former colleagues, including Zoe Ball and Dermot O’Leary, who praised her professionalism and contributions to the show.
Cox is scheduled to begin her role on 6 July, with Toy Story 5 star Tom Hanks as her first guest. She has humorously mentioned the need for multiple alarm clocks to ensure she is on time for her debut, highlighting her excitement for the new opportunity.
