Plans revealed for a massive upgrade to Brisbane’s Lang Park stadium, marking the largest enhancement in its 23-year history. The upgrades, announced by the LNP government, will increase the stadium’s capacity, add a wraparound LED video screen, and introduce new terrace viewing platforms and entertainment zones. According to ABC News, design work has begun, with construction expected to begin towards the end of the year.

The upgrades will be financed through the Queensland government’s Legacy Fund and will feature supersized scoreboards, a 360-degree wraparound LED ribbon board, and two tennis court-sized media mesh screens. Premier David Crisafulli emphasized the importance of the stadium to Queenslanders, stating, “We’re giving it the love it deserves so it’s up to scratch for a growing state.”

In addition to the increased capacity, the plans include new terraced areas behind the goals and entertainment zones with standing areas within the seating bowl and concourse. Earlier this year, the LNP also announced a temporary increase in the number of concerts allowed at the stadium, raising the limit from 12 to 21 events annually.

Tourism and Acting Sport and Racing Minister Andrew Powell noted that these upgrades will solidify Lang Park’s role as a central venue for major events, ensuring it remains a fortress for local teams and a magnet for international events. Lang Park has a rich history of hosting top-tier musicians and will play a key role in the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Stadiums Queensland CEO Todd Harris stated that the investment is crucial for meeting the demands of significant global events. Brisbane Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy expressed excitement about the upgrades, affirming that they will provide a world-class experience for fans and athletes alike. Once design work is completed, the upgrade will go out for tender, with construction expected to begin towards the end of the year.
