Arabic version: المزارعة بريانا جونز تدمج الزراعة وصناعة الأفلام في أستراليا الغربية
Brianna Jones, a 29-year-old farmer from Gairdner, Western Australia, is making waves by combining her love for farming with her passion for filmmaking. Located approximately 470 kilometers southeast of Perth, Jones has spent most of her life in the bush, returning to her family farm after studying a double degree in biology and screen production.
According to ABC News, Jones had a unique opportunity to work on the set of the film adaptation of Tim Winton’s novel, Blueback, which was filmed in Bremer Bay, 500 kilometers southeast of Perth. This experience allowed her to connect her regional upbringing with her aspirations in the film industry.
While on set, Jones took on multiple roles, including being a production runner and skippering a boat. She noted that many skills she developed on the farm, such as driving trucks and heavy lifting, seamlessly transferred to her work in film. Additionally, she utilized her horse skills during various filming locations, showcasing her versatility.
Bec Bignell, an associate producer for Blueback, emphasized the significance of providing regional creatives like Jones with opportunities to work on local screen productions. This approach not only builds industry skills but also strengthens regional storytelling and creates valuable career pathways.
Despite her success, Jones faces challenges in balancing her dual passions. She mentioned the difficulty of managing farm work alongside film projects, which can last two to three months. However, she appreciates the support from her parents, which has allowed her to expand her knowledge and experience beyond farming.
