Parramatta is transforming into Sydney’s most exciting winter destination with a new two-week Midwinter Festival during the July school holidays.

From daring new heights to a relaxing atmosphere, the program features an immersive 360-degree dome film and music experience, alongside a vibrant mix of attractions such as a vintage carousel and bungee jump ride at Parramatta and Centenary Squares.

Visitors can unwind with hearty food and drink available from the Midwinter Bar by Karu, toast marshmallows at the S’mores Experience and enjoy special Winter markets and roving performers throughout the precinct.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said Midwinter Festival will bring warmth and joy to the CBD during the coldest part of the year.

“Parramatta is the place to be this winter and that is why we are turning Parramatta Square into the perfect place to rug up, pull on a beanie and enjoy the atmosphere of our first Midwinter Festival,” Cr Zaiter said.

“This year’s program will showcase our City like never before with fun rides and experiences over the entire school holiday period.

“It’s an exciting time to visit Parramatta so why not make time to come and explore the City that will warm your heart this winter.”

Visual art installations will be proudly on display, while our special winter markets will be available to snap up something special to take home.

School holiday activities will be operating at PHIVE and Parramatta Town Hall including an interactive performance by ERTH, featuring Fauna, an enchanting giant creature in The Soft Forest – a story about nature and connection.

The winners of the recently held Midwinter Artwork Competition will have their work transformed into large-scale illuminated art displays and showcased in Parramatta Square during the festival. Six lucky young children were chosen from 68 entries for their creative works inspired by the Artemis II moon mission earlier this year.

The festival will run from 12pm-9pm from 4 July to 18 July with a mix of free and ticketed activities. The 360-degree dome film and music experience will begin at 10am each day.

“Come and grab a hot chocolate, coffee, tea or even a mulled wine for the adults and enjoy the winter buzz,” Cr Zaiter said.

“This event is the perfect lead up to our award-winning Parramatta Lanes – it’s one not to miss.”

Walker Corporation is supporting Midwinter Festival as major partner with winter-themed menus on offer at participating Parramatta Square eateries and their Winter Rewards initiative, designed to drive visitation to the CBD.

Walker’s General Manager of Parramatta Square Chelsea Milne said: “We’re proud to support events like Midwinter Festival that bring people into the city beyond the workday, boosting local business and reinforcing Parramatta as one of Sydney’s leading lifestyle and cultural destinations.”

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
