Three men have died after a fire burned down a building in west London, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) has said. The blaze erupted shortly before 19:00 BST on Saturday, engulfing a single-storey pavilion located on New Zealand Way.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, with approximately 100 personnel and 15 fire engines responding to the emergency. They managed to rescue three men from the burning structure. Despite the efforts of the London Ambulance Service, two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third succumbed to injuries later in hospital. In total, nine individuals received treatment at the site.
The fire caused significant damage, destroying just over half of the pavilion before being brought under control by 21:25 BST. Fire crews remained on-site to extinguish lingering spots of fire, while community engagement officers from LFB provided support to local residents.
A joint investigation by the LFB and the Metropolitan Police has been initiated to determine the cause of the fire. LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne expressed condolences, stating, “Sadly, three people have died following a fire on New Zealand Way, White City.” The Metropolitan Police is currently working to inform the families of the victims.
