Arabic version: فرص اسكتلندا في كأس العالم تتدهور بعد الهزيمة أمام البرازيل
Scotland’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage of the World Cup have dwindled significantly following a 3-0 defeat to Brazil. Their chances of qualification have dropped from 42% to just 5.26% in a little over 24 hours.
According to BBC News, Scotland’s performance in the final group-stage match left them with only three points, which is insufficient for advancement. The defeat also worsened their goal difference to -3, complicating their chances against other third-placed teams.
The situation worsened as other results unfolded. South Africa’s 1-0 victory over South Korea saw the latter drop to third place, while Ecuador’s unexpected 2-1 win against Germany secured them a third-place finish with four points. Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Japan also allowed them to qualify, further diminishing Scotland’s prospects.
Currently, Scotland ranks eighth among the twelve third-placed teams and requires at least four specific outcomes in the remaining matches to have any hope of progressing. This includes various scenarios involving draws and losses by specific margins for competing teams.
As the tournament progresses, Scotland fans are left anxiously awaiting the results that could determine their fate in this World Cup campaign.
