Arabic version: الملك تشارلز يكشف عن دفعه 12.9 مليون جنيه إسترليني كضرائب لعام 2024-2025
King Charles has disclosed he paid £12.9m in tax for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, marking a historic moment as the first British monarch to publicly disclose such information. This tax contribution places him among the top 100 taxpayers in the UK. The Prince of Wales, Prince William, also declared he paid £7.76m in tax during the same period, according to BBC News.
The annual report shows that King Charles paid £11.7m in tax for the previous year, while Prince William contributed £8.34m. The decision to disclose their tax payments was made voluntarily by both the King and Prince William, with Buckingham Palace emphasizing the move as a step toward greater transparency regarding royal finances.
The King’s income primarily derives from his Duchy of Lancaster estate, which provided him with £25.2m in the 2025-26 period. Other taxable income sources include his personal investments and earnings from his private estates, Balmoral and Sandringham. However, the exact breakdown of the King’s tax payments remains unclear, as experts have pointed out the lack of detail on the types of taxes paid.
In addition to tax disclosures, the annual royal accounts indicated that the Sovereign Grant, which funds the monarchy’s operational costs, will rise to just under £100m for the year 2027-28. This increase is intended to cover expenses such as palace maintenance and the transition to green energy.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will continue to live in Clarence House, foregoing a move to Buckingham Palace, a decision aimed at enhancing public access to the historic site. Renovations at Buckingham Palace are expected to be completed by March next year, marking the first time since Queen Victoria’s reign that a monarch has chosen not to reside in the palace.
