The Australian Lebanese Cultural Union (ALCU) proudly demonstrated its ongoing commitment to promoting Lebanese arts and culture by attending the special performance of Yalla to Lebanon (Upgraded!), presented by Makkazi Productions at the Seymour Centre in Sydney on Saturday, 27 June.
The highly anticipated production, written and performed by James Elazzi and Antony Makhlouf, attracted hundreds of audience members who came together to celebrate Lebanese-Australian identity through humour, nostalgia, and heartfelt storytelling. The play explored the experiences of growing up between two cultures, capturing the unique dynamics of Lebanese family life while highlighting themes of belonging, migration, and cultural pride.
Recognising the importance of supporting Lebanese creative talent, Makkazi Productions extended a special invitation to the World President of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, Dr Abraham Constantin, to attend the performance and show his support for this significant cultural production.

Dr Constantin was joined by a number of members and representatives of the Australian Lebanese Cultural Union, who attended the performance alongside the packed audience and enjoyed an evening that celebrated the richness of Lebanese culture through theatre.
Following the performance, guests were invited to a meet-and-greet with the cast and creative team. During this special gathering, Dr Constantin congratulated James Elazzi and Antony Makhlouf on the success of the production and acknowledged their outstanding contribution to preserving and promoting Lebanese culture through the performing arts.
As a symbol of appreciation and recognition, Dr Constantin proudly presented both James and Antony with the official Australian Lebanese Cultural Union lapel pin, welcoming them into the wider ALCU family and recognising their efforts in strengthening Lebanese cultural identity within Australia.

Dr Constantin reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to supporting Lebanese artists, creatives, and cultural initiatives, expressing his enthusiasm for building a strong and lasting relationship with Makkazi Productions. He spoke of the importance of encouraging future collaborations that celebrate Lebanese heritage and provide opportunities for local artists to continue sharing authentic Lebanese stories with Australian audiences.
The evening highlighted the vital role that theatre plays in preserving culture and connecting generations. Productions such as Yalla to Lebanon (Upgraded!) not only entertain audiences but also create meaningful conversations about identity, family, and the shared experiences of Lebanese Australians.
The Australian Lebanese Cultural Union congratulates James Elazzi, Antony Makhlouf, and the entire Makkazi Productions team on the continued success of Yalla to Lebanon (Upgraded!) and looks forward to supporting future productions that showcase the creativity, resilience, and cultural richness of the Lebanese community in Australia.
