Arabic version: تأجيل قضية اعتداء أنطوني كاتالانو حتى أكتوبر
The assault case against former Australian Community Media executive Antony Catalano has been adjourned until October. This decision follows a request from his lawyer for a longer-than-usual adjournment to allow for more preparation time and ongoing negotiations with prosecutors.
According to ABC News, Catalano is facing serious charges, including assault, false imprisonment, making threats to kill, and recklessly causing injury. These allegations stem from an incident in March at his St Kilda penthouse, where he is accused of attacking his wife, Stefanie.
During the incident, Catalano allegedly swung a clothes iron at his wife’s head and dragged her through their apartment. Following his arrest, he was released on bail, with conditions recently varied to permit travel to Byron Bay and time with his wife, who has shown support for the changes.
On July 1, his lawyer, Tony Hargreaves, formally requested to adjourn the case until October 16, citing the need for time to obtain expert reports and continue discussions with the prosecution. Hargreaves noted that there were “reasons” for the adjournment but chose not to elaborate in front of the media.
Catalano, who recently resigned his directorship of holding companies linked to ACM and Southern Cross Media, previously held significant positions at Fairfax Media and was involved in a $115 million deal to become part-owner of ACM in 2019.
