A magnitude-3.8 earthquake struck Victoria’s south-west coastline on July 5, 2026, around 1:40 PM. The quake originated near the Great Ocean Road, specifically between Apollo Bay and Port Campbell, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
According to ABC News, more than 60 felt reports were logged with Geoscience Australia. Residents as far away as Ballarat, Geelong, and Melbourne reported feeling the earthquake.
The Great Ocean Road is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year. The Twelve Apostles, located just over 20 minutes’ drive from the epicenter, is a major attraction. Social media posts from local residents indicated that many felt the quake, particularly in nearby Apollo Bay.
Helena Hunt, a resident in Ferguson, approximately 60 kilometers east of Port Campbell, described the event as causing her house to shake violently for a few seconds. Hunt noted that this was only the second earthquake she had experienced in her life.
