Charles Leclerc took Ferrari’s second win in three races in a dramatic British Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. Leclerc’s first victory in nearly two years came after a dramatic race that concluded under a safety car. According to BBC News, the race was marked by a software error that led to confusion about the safety car’s status in the closing laps.

The race began with a record crowd of 175,000 fans, anticipating a strong performance from championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who started from pole position. However, a slow start allowed Leclerc to take the lead, with Hamilton following closely behind. Antonelli faced difficulties throughout the race, including a suspension failure that ultimately dropped him down the standings.

Max Verstappen’s crash at Stowe while contending for second place triggered the safety car, promoting Russell to second. Despite the chaotic circumstances, Russell chose not to pit, which positioned him advantageously for the final laps. The confusion surrounding the safety car led to a finish that maintained the race order, securing Leclerc’s win.

After the race, Antonelli was demoted to 16th place due to a penalty for exceeding track limits. Hamilton is also under investigation for a yellow-flag infringement, complicating the championship standings. The outcome tightens the title race, narrowing Antonelli’s lead over Russell to 25 points, with Hamilton trailing by an additional seven points.

The next Formula 1 race is scheduled for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps from July 17-19.
