Arabic version: وفاة رضيع فلسطيني بعد أن أغلقت نقطة تفتيش الوصول الطبي
According to Al Jazeera,
A four-month-old Palestinian boy has died after an Israeli military checkpoint west of Ramallah blocked access to urgent medical care. The boy, identified as Ahmad Marouf Zeid, succumbed to his condition after being held up for more than an hour despite the critical nature of his health, according to local authorities.
Laila Ghannam, the governor of Ramallah and el-Bireh, confirmed the infant’s death on social media. She criticized the Israeli forces for their actions at the checkpoint, stating that soldiers fired tear gas to prevent Palestinians from passing through, further complicating the situation. Ghannam described the loss of Ahmad, the family’s only son, as “a stain on the conscience of humanity.”
The incident reflects ongoing tensions in the region, as Israeli military operations continue to impact the lives of Palestinians. In a separate incident, a 16-year-old boy was shot dead by Israeli forces at the Qalandiya refugee camp near Ramallah, with two other boys, both aged 14, injured during the altercation.
Violence has escalated in the West Bank since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza more than 1,000 days ago. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 1,087 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since October 2023, highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in the area.
In Gaza, an Israeli drone targeted a crowd of Palestinians in Omar al-Mukhtar Street in the heart of Gaza City, killing at least two people, health officials said. Recent figures show that the ongoing conflict has resulted in 73,090 deaths since October 2023, with 173,550 others injured. The situation remains dire as both regions grapple with the consequences of continued conflict.
